Betty Bowling O’Bleness passed away on November 1, 2020, in Scott City, Kansas.
Betty was born on July 5, 1923, in Wichita, Kansas, to OA (Ben) and Iva (Sawyer) Bowling. She lived in Clark County and Ashland, Kansas, for more than 85 years before moving to Scott City, Kansas, in 2012.
In June of 1942, Betty was married to Kenneth O’Bleness at a ceremony on her parents’ farm in Ashland, Kansas. They were happily married for 65 years before he passed away in 2007.
Betty belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and was an active member of the congregation at the First Presbyterian Church of Ashland. She loved to sew and created quilts for her family as gifts for weddings and graduations. She also enjoyed playing golf with Kenneth and was proud of achieving the accomplishment of getting ‘A Hole In One’.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth O’Bleness, her brothers Melvin Bowling, Gordon Bowling, and sister Marjorie (Tiny) Rainbolt.
She is survived by: children Betty Marie (Wayne) Mathies and Larry (Helen) O’Bleness; siblings Ocie Bowling, Darlene (Doll) Yunker, Elaine Alexander, Ann Harrod, and Karen Maris; grandchildren, Rona Spitler, Aaron Mathies, Lori O’Bleness, Lisa (Ryan) Long, Lizabeth (Eric) O’Bleness, Brenda (Mike) Sharpe, Matthew Thomas, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
