Mattie Jo (Joyce) Mathis Armstrong was born November 10, 1933 in Texline, Texas to Joe and Mattie (Craig) Mathis. She passed away on December 7, 2016 at Shattuck Oklahoma at the age of 83 years and 27 days.
Joyce moved to Higgins Texas to care for an elderly woman, and in doing so met the love of her life C.E (Dick) Armstrong. They were married in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 13, 1957. They resided in Higgins Texas for their entire married life. They ran the Higgins Cleaners for many years. Joyce later ran a daycare in Higgins where she cared for many children of whom she considered her adopted family. She worked for many years for Hilton and Clara Menser at the Red Bud Grocery where Hilton taught her to be a very good butcher. When they sold the Grocery Store to Robert (Red) Perkins she worked for him for the rest of her working career.
Joyce very seldom met a stranger. Always greeting you with a smile, and maybe a prank for you. She has many friends in the Higgins and Shattuck area, too numerous to mention them all as for fear of missing someone. Joyce resided in the Shattuck Nursing Home for the last several years.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick Armstrong and other relatives. She is survived by a niece Dottie Fiskin of Hutchinson, Kansas. Great Nieces and Nephews. And a huge family of dear friends. Her smile and sweet personality will be missed.
