Verla Maxine (Headlee) Peetoom

Verla Maxine Headlee was born July 27, 1935 at Paruna, Oklahoma to Ward and Nellie Dollina (Currier) Headlee. Nellie passed away during childbirth leaving Ward with a baby girl. Having difficulty being single father, Verla went to live with her Uncle Homer and Aunt Elfa Headlee which adopted her a little later in life.

                Verla graduated from May High School in May 1953. She later met Verlin (Pete) Peetoom and they married October 20^th, 1958 in Clayton, New Mexico. Each of them having a daughter to bring to the marriage they made their home in Woodward, Oklahoma. In 1962, another child was born into this union. The family moved to Laverne where Pete and Verla both worked for Baldwin Redi Mix for several years. Verla then began working at Western State Hospital in Fort Supply, Oklahoma, from which she retired from in 1999. They began working at Canton Lake running the gate shack. After complete retirement they moved to Leedey, Oklahoma where they lived until Pete’s death in 2003. In January 2004 she moved to Beaver to be closer to family. In July 2012 due to her health problems she moved in with Carolyn and her husband David. She remained with them till health issues made it impossible for them to care for her and was moved to Beaver County Nursing Home in January 2019.

                Throughout the years Verla has always enjoyed horses. She was a member of the Harper County Pony Express and enjoyed riding horses and following some of her grandkids and great grandkids to rodeos and basketball games. She was very active with the Laverne Ambulance service for many years.

                Verla passed away May 1, 2019 at the Beaver County Memorial Hospital. She went to be with the Lord and savior. She is preceded in death by both sets of her parents, a brother,  a sister, and her husband.          

                She is survived by daughter Debbie and husband Danny Ehret of Van Buren, Arkansas, daughter Lotte James of Oceans Springs, Mississippi, daughter Carolyn and husband David Perse of Beaver, Oklahoma. Brothers Bill Headlee of Woodward, Oklahoma, Steve Headlee of Alva, Oklahoma, sisters Genevra Powell of Guymon Oklahoma, Elanie Walker of Woodward, Oklahoma, 7 grandkids, 23 great grandkids, and a host of friends.
