Ula Mae Mills was born on October 26th, 1929 to Joseph and Myrtle (Hamilton) Miller in Capron, OK.  Being saved at a young age, she went to be with her Lord and Savior at the age of 90 on July 23rd, 2020 at Harper County Community Hospital.  Ula was born the fifth of six children.  She started school at Selman, OK and graduated from Buffalo High School with the class of 1948. She met Robert A. Mills while attending school and they were married on August 21st, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo, OK.  To this union, four children were born, Roberta (Mills) Curtis, John J. Mills, Patricia Marie Mills and Loretta (Mills) Morris.

 

 

After graduation, Ula took various jobs in her community such as laundry for the elderly, working at the laundry mat and permed and styled many ladies hair. She then took a job as a cook at the Buffalo Grade School and then the Buffalo High School for 21 years. She then worked a short time at Western State Hospital in Fort Supply, OK and in the deli at the Jack and Jill grocery in Buffalo, OK.  After that, she was nurse’s aide and ward clerk until her retirement. While she worked her various jobs, she also helped Robert with many of the farming duties which included summer harvest.  Ula Mae also volunteered her wonderful cooking skills for many years at Falls Creek Church Camp in Davis, OK. She oversaw many funeral dinners, contributed her own dishes for dinners and provided vegetables for the Team Kids at the First Baptist Church. Ula was an all-around cook as she created wonderful wedding and birthday cakes. She baked cookies for alumni hospitality and Christmas Around Town. There was nothing like “Ula Mae’s cinnamon rolls.”

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, two daughters Patricia Marie and Roberta Mae, 2 sisters, Delilah Lake and Bonnie Smith, 3 brothers, Russell Miller, Bev Miller and Jay Harvey Miller.

 

She survived by son John J. Mills of British Columbia, Canada and Loretta Morris of Buffalo, OK.  In addition seven grandchildren,  Stacey Curtis of Valencia, Spain, Robby Curtis and Dorothy of Oklahoma City, OK, David Mills of Canada, Mandi Mills of Canada, Malissa West and fiancé Dale Miller of Fairmont, OK,  Julie Ketterman and David of Enid, OK, Jennifer Stafford and Kerry of Beaver, OK. Also, eight great-grandchildren, Danielle and Levi Mills, Veronica and Abagail Mills, Zachery and Emily Denton, Toni West and fiancé Danny Edmeade, Mary and Abygail Ketterman and Kobe Stafford.  She had 3 great-great-grandchildren, Revanna and Lucianna Mills and Jaxton West. Also surviving are a very special sister-in-law, Norma Miller of Wooward, OK and various nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.
