Thomas Smith Obituary

Thomas Marshall Smith was born June 5, 1941, in the home of his maternal grandparents North of Rosston, OK. He was the second child born to Elmo Jarvis Smith and Natalee June (Wilmot) Smith.

Tom was raised on the farm five miles North of Rosston, OK.  He died February 1, 2024, in Laverne, OK at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 27 days. He lived 43,475,040 minutes.

Tom attended first through tenth grade at Rosston transferring to Laverne for his junior and senior years, he graduated with the Class of 1959. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

He married Janet Lynn Allen on June 8, 1963, in Rosston, OK. To this union three children were born, Dana, Loren and Bartt.

Tom was a contract well pumper for over 30 years driving millions of miles all over Northwest Oklahoma. He raised cattle, wheat, alfalfa and horses.  He loved to farm and in 1973 Tom bought his family farm where he resided until his death.

He loved to hunt quail and watch his bird dogs work. He enjoyed following his children and watching their activities. Tom was a big supporter of the Laverne football program. He built the current goal posts at Kilmer Field. He was instrumental in the design and construction of the Doby Springs Golf Course.  Tom loved all sports.

Tom served as President of the Coop Board of Directors. He was a member of the Jaycee’s and was a lifetime alumni member of the Future Farmers of America.

On July 21, 1992, he married Scotty Cosby. Together they farmed, raised cattle, traveled and collected antiques.

Never one to be idle, in 2012 Tom bought his first Harley Trike. Traveling on rides with his sisters and brother-in-laws all over the United States.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Elmo & June Smith, his first wife Janet (Allen) Smith and her parents Lynn & Alice Allen, second wife Scotty Cosby, brother-in-laws Keith Blankenship and Bill Schneider.

Tom is survived by his sisters Martha Blankenship, Susan Wicker and husband Larry and Ginger Schneider, brother-in-law Roger Allen and wife Susie. His three children Dana (Smith) Wheeler and husband Eric, Loren Smith and wife Tracy and Bartt Smith. Grandchildren Andrew Wheeler and wife Becky, Yvonne (Wheeler) Leneve and husband Andrew, Shanel Wheeler, Zackry Wheeler and wife Manda, Taylor Smith, Tristan (Smith) Goodman and husband Josh, Tawni (Smith) Domer and husband Collin, Cody Smith and fiancée Taylor Luis, Hadley (Smith) Wesner and husband Chauncey, Katlyn Smith and 14 great grandchildren as well as numerous extended family and friends.
