Steven Bradley Hazen was born the 3rd child to Eugene Hazen and Dixie Dodson Hazen on September 19th, 1955 at Ashland, Kansas.
Steve joined his heavenly father from his farm September 23, 2022 at the age of 67 years. Steve attended Protection public schools and graduated with the class of 1973. Growing up Steve spent his summers and after school out on the farm southwest of Protection with his dad and brothers.
Steve loved playing sports in high school. Steve loved rodeo, team roping and golfing with his friends. He loved animals, so much that he would shed tears over any injured ones.
Steve and Kelly Degnan were wed on November 28, 1980 in Protection. To this union were born two children, Jule and Haley.
Steve was a farmer, stockman and truck driver. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ashland. He was a part of a giving group of local farmers and ranchers that he named Ashes to Ashes. He was an avid supporter of any person he knew and was always trying to make connections anywhere he went. Steve always had a story or joke to tell.
His greatest joys in life were his family. Grandpa loved to watch his grandchildren in everything, whether it be rodeoing, volleyball, baseball or basketball.
Survivors include wife Kelly of the home; son Jule (Heidi) Hazen of Ashland, KS; daughter Haley (Dustin) Walker of Ashland, KS; grandchildren Joslyn and Mason Hazen, Jacee and Rayna Walker; sisters Kerry (Gene) Hackney, Amy Hazen; and brother Trent Hazen all of Protection.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Merle and Stan, sister in law Ilene Hazen, father in law Richard Degnan and nephew Jared Kaltenbach.
