Stanley Kilmer Obituary

Stanley Jay Kilmer was born on September 10, 1940 at Alva General Hospital in Alva, Oklahoma to Earl William Kilmer and Edith Grace (Ent) Kilmer.  He grew up in Deer Creek, Oklahoma, and often visited the general store with his dog.  The family moved to Laverne, Oklahoma when Stan was in second grade in 1947.   Stan was the oldest of three children—one brother (Terry Earl) and one sister (Edith Erlene).  Stan was taught algebra and played football for his dad, Coach Earl Kilmer.  He graduated from Laverne High School with the Class of 1958.

After graduation, Stan served in the United States Air Force before working for Dolese and Tri-State, becoming a long haul truck driver.  He attended barber school and worked various jobs, such as making pizza and filing taxes, before finding his passion for computers, electronics, and Information Technology.

On March 23, 1964, Stan married the love of his life, Leonia Deann Adrian, in Amarillo, Texas.  Stan and Deann had one daughter, Konnie Katherine, stillborn on May 18, 1967.  Stan attended the Kilmer Reunion every year at Kaw Lake and always brought his dogs.  Stan lived in the Oklahoma City area with Deann until Deann passed away on September 13, 1982 after 16 years of marriage.  Stan faithfully visited and decorated his wife and daughter’s graves in Earth, Texas every Memorial Day.

Stan attended Oklahoma State University – Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) and graduated with an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering Technology in May 1991.  Stan worked for Oklahoma State University – Oklahoma City (OSU-OKC) for several years before getting a job in Information Technology at the University of Oklahoma. Stan worked on installing hardware, running and testing back up power generators, and setting up the hardware, power, and cooling for new supercomputers.  Stan retired from the University of Oklahoma in January 2012 after working for 15 years at OU.

Stan enjoyed reading books, especially mysteries and science fiction, solving Sudoku puzzles, and talking on the HAM radio.  He liked to go scuba diving, boating on the lake, fishing, buying fishing poles and lures, and hunting with friends.  Stan enjoyed woodworking, especially building bookcases and turning pens.  He faithfully watched Laverne Tiger football and was a dedicated OU football fan and OU softball fan.  Stan rode a motorcycle and then a trike motorcycle later in life.  He went on several rides with the Storm Riders Oklahoma Territory, and served as a Road Captain as well.  Stan loved the open road and made several bike rides with friends to the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina.

On March 30, 2024, surrounded by loving family, Stanley Jay Kilmer passed away in his sleep at the age of eighty-three years.  Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Leonia Deann (Adrian) Kilmer; his infant daughter, Konnie Katherine Kilmer; his parents, Earl and Edith Kilmer; his brother, Terry Kilmer; his niece, Janelle Kilmer; his sister, Erlene (Kilmer) Meier; and his parents-in-law, Buddy and Nina Adrian.

He is survived by his brother-in-law Tommie Meier of Laverne, Oklahoma; his nephew Michael Meier of Huntsville, Alabama; his niece Tamara (Meier) Brunk of Ardmore, Oklahoma; his sister-in-law Mary Kilmer of Windsor, California; his brother-in-law, Lonnie Adrian of Muleshoe, Texas; his sister-in-law, Susie (Adrian) Harendt of Lubbock, Texas; numerous cousins, other relatives, and friends.
