Sharon Swan Obituary

“Her children will rise up and call her blessed.”

Proverbs 31:28

Sharon K Swan, age 70, of Shattuck Oklahoma passed quietly Saturday, February 5th at St Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas and stepped into her heavenly home with some of her loved ones present. Sharon was born on March 24, 1951, in Hardtner, KS to Charles and Idell Green, and would become the oldest of three children born into the family. Sharon’s parents moved to Gate, Oklahoma from Garden City, Kansas when she was approximately eight years old where she began to attend school. Sharon would attend school in Gate until she graduated in 1969, and this is where Sharon discovered her love for basketball.

After graduating from high school Sharon would attend NWOSU for one semester, before entering into marriage with Jim Kirkhart also of Gate, Oklahoma. During their time together, the couple would travel the world while Jim was enlisted in the Army. Before returning to Gate, OK the couple would have two children, Beckie and Shane; however, the couple would soon part ways.

Soon after, Sharon would begin working a number of different jobs that would eventually lead her to becoming part of the Forgan School System, where she fulfilled a number of roles. Her fondest memories would come from her times driving the bus and working within the school administration. It was during this time that she would meet Ron Swan, who would become the love of her life. Over the next couple of years Ron and Sharon enjoyed spending time together and with their children. On January 11, 1987, Ron and John Swan were united in marriage to Sharon (Green), daughter Beckie Jo and son Shane Roy Kirkhart, where they grew together as a new family. The family would enjoy many fun times together, and spent many summers camping and fishing. Sharon’s love for her family would lead her to begin researching the family’s ancestry, which would become a hobby that she enjoyed. Sharon was also in her element when she was attending different activities that involved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Sharon was known within the family for making the world’s best burritos, which the kids often fought over, and which also became a source of bribery amongst her children and grandchildren. In 2001 Sharon and Ron would move from their home in Knowles, OK to Kingfisher where Sharon would attend classes to become a paraprofessional and joined the Kingfisher school system where she loved her job working with children with special needs. On April 17, 2015, Sharon would lose the love of her life when Ron would pass away after a long battle with health issues following a severe heart incident. Sharon would remain in Kingfisher for two more years where she would eventually retire for the Oklahoma School System. After retiring Sharon would move back to Shattuck, Oklahoma in order to be closer to her mother, and family. After returning to Shattuck, Sharon would spend her remaining time traveling, spending time with her family, and attending different activities associated with her grandchildren and great children. Sharon especially enjoyed attending sporting events and basketball games.

Sharon was proceeded in death by her father Charles Green, loving husband Ron Swan, her mother and father-in-law, and two sisters-in-law. Sharon is survived by her mother Idell Green, her daughter Beckie Powell and husband David of Laverne, OK, her son Shane Kirkhart and wife Jennifer of Forgan, OK, her son John Swan of Eureka Springs, AK, Grandchildren Drake (Melissa) Eagan of Allison, TX; Tayler (Jodi) Eagan of Laverne, OK; Raegan Kirkhart of Forgan, OK; Kinley Kirkhart of Forgan, OK; Rylan Kirkhart of Forgan, OK; Tori (Kevin) Oxford of Houston, TX; Jessica Carter of Guymon, OK; Great grandchildren Damon, Erhon, Eden Li, Jordyn, Imogine, Jude, Raylee, Olivia, Blakely, Colton, Emmett, and Mason.
