Ronnie Duncan Obituary

Ronnie Fred Duncan was born on 11/2/1940 in Hollis, OK.   They moved to Hooker, OK where his mother, Peggy (Ramey) Dansby and JW Dansby raised him.  When he graduated high school he got a job on a drilling rig that got moved to Nevada.  They started drilling test holes for Atomic Bombs.  Ron always told stories of the silver coins he won at casinos in Las Vegas and the land he could have bought just south of Las Vegas really cheap.  The land would have been across from present day Flamingo.

Ron came back home and started college at OPSU in Goodwell cause that is where his sister, Merriloy was going.   His sister had a friend she wanted him to meet, Viola Hodges.  Ron and Viola dated and then got married in a double wedding with Merriloy and Carmon on August 3, 1963.

Ron was drafted after that in 1963.  He and Viola went to Fort Knox, KY where he was stationed for 2 years.

Ron and Viola came back home to Hooker, OK.  He was finishing college at OPSU and she started teaching at Tyrone, OK.

Ron applied for a teaching position at Laverne in 1969.  He had an interview with Mr. Jayroe, who was very impressed with Ron.  Ron waved at everyone and Mr. Jayroe said he was hired as shop and drafting teacher.

Ron and Viola went to NWOSU to get their masters while they worked.

Ron and Viola started a family with Rhodena then a few years later Suzanne and Eric.  He taught 26 years.  He also helped his father in law farm and ranch in Forgan, OK.  When he retired from teaching he enjoyed feeding his cattle and helping his kids when he could.

Ron left this life on December 7, 2024 in his home with his family present.  He leaves as his survivors his wife, Viola of the home, brother Bud Duncan and wife Judy Duncan of Hooker, daughter, Rhodena DeWitt and son in law, Troy DeWitt of Gate, OK, his son Eric Duncan and daughter in law Kelli Duncan of Woodward, OK, grandson Tel DeWitt and wife Jillian DeWitt, granddaughters Jillian Burton and Carli Burton, grandson Coy Burton and great granddaughter Blakely DeWitt, many cousins and friends.
