Roberta D Bare, 63, passed away suddenly but peacefully on Saturday, Oct 5th, 2024, at Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Born July 8, 1961 in Buffalo, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Robert, a distinguished AQHA and Angus breeder, and JoAnne Jones Sanborn Bare, a teacher, of Clark County, Kansas. She grew up on a ranch near Protection, KS, attending high school there.
Roberta attended college at several universities including Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma. She lived a number of years in Sante Fe, New Mexico and loved it there. She returned to Kansas to help her father and mother. She managed the ranch after her father passed away in 2013. About that time, she moved to Laverne, Oklahoma with her mother JoAnne and cared for her until she passed away in 2019.
Roberta grew up with horses, cats and dogs and cared for numerous animals wherever she lived. She bred Catahoula Leopard dogs with her beloved Pearl and Pearl’s daughter, Lovejoy. Her horses were a continuation of the bloodlines bred by her father, Robert Bare.
Roberta was well-read about many subjects including religion; she enjoyed attending different services as a young woman. She became a member of the Catholic Church in 1994 in Santa Fe and joined St Peter’s Catholic Church in Woodward when she returned to the area. She enjoyed conversations with Father Joe Arledge, Father Chris Maddhichetty, and Rev Cristobal De Loera. She collected religious statues and often donated canned goods for the Blessing Box at the Church.
Roberta is preceded in death by her father Robert, her mother JoAnne, her brother, John Sanborn, leaving friends and numerous cousins to miss their conversations together.
Services will be at the San Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio Catholic Church in Laverne on Friday, October 25th at 1 pm officiated by her friend, Father Chris Maddhichetty of St James the Greater Catholic Church (Oklahoma City). The family invites friends to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
