Robert Gregory Sells

Robert Gregory Sells, age 58, of Laverne, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 at his home in Laverne, OK. Rob was born on November 8, 1965 in Laverne, OK to Douglas Sells and Jacklyn Hester Sells.

Rob spent his elementary school years at Laverne before moving to Tonkawa, OK while his mother completed nursing school. They then moved to Enid where Rob attended Carrier Junior High and went on to graduate from Chisholm High School in 1984. While attending school, he was active in football, baseball and track. He then attended NWOSU in Alva, OK on a football scholarship. He earned his Bachelor’s degree and began his career in the oil and gas industry beginning with Texaco, then Shell and on to Southern Star. These jobs allowed him to live in Houston, Denver and Wichita throughout his career. Before working for Southern Star, he spent several years owning and operating Golden Pin Lanes and the Alley Grill in Sedan, KS where he also helped coach his nephew’s youth football team. Rob’s passion was hunting and fishing which led him back home to Laverne where he was able to purchase prime hunting property next to his family’s land.

Rob was known for his heart of gold and he never met a stranger. He loved his friends and family deeply and as many of them have said, “He gave the best hugs.” Chances are, if you were a friend or family, you had one of his beloved nicknames. He loved animals, especially dogs, and would often donate to local animal shelters.

Rob was preceded in death by his grandparents; Jack and Genevieve Hester, Vernon and Vesta Sells and Gene and Earline Wells as well as uncle and aunt Bill and Vonda Rogers, aunt LaDonna Burkitt, uncle Gary Jones, and cousins Rick Jones, Jason Tackwell and Shandy Sells.

He is survived by his parents Douglas and Pamela Sells of Shawnee, OK, Jacklyn Hester Jones of Sedan, KS and Larry Jones of Sedan KS, his 5 siblings; Jennifer Unruh and husband Mark Unruh of Sedan, KS, Ginger Jones and wife Lisa Barcellas of Henderson, NV, Dustin Jones and wife Younga of Richmond, VA, Chad Metcalf and wife April of Shawnee, OK and Jennifer Metcalf Scott of Shawnee, OK and 5 nephews, 2 nieces and 1 great-niece.
