Robert Heglin Obituary

Robert Eugene Heglin was born on October 17, 1944, one half mile South of Gate, Oklahoma at the Heglin Home Place. He attended Gate School, graduating as Valedictorian of Gate High School in 1962. He loved playing basketball and baseball and was one of the best 3rd basemen around. He played on a men’s summer softball league team where they played 90 games in one summer. He also coached a women’s softball team.

After graduation, Robert attended SWOSU in Weatherford for 2 years and then attended OPSU for 2 years, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy. He was a member of the Army Reserve for 5 years 9 months, serving as Staff Sergeant for Training Camps.

He was the son of George “Bud” and Hazel Irene (Priest) Heglin. He had a sister Lila Curtis and a brother Dale. Robert married DeLoris Sutherland. They were the parents of Kelli, Kristi and Shadron. He later married Tereasa Thex and brought to the family Tanya, Elicia and Charlie.

Robert farmed and ranched in his early years. He was the first President of the Beaver County Farmers and Ranchers. He and his family were named Farm Family of 1972-73. He later started working for District 1 in Beaver County as a shop mechanic/truck driver and was planning on retiring in June after 26 years of service.

Robert also went to Auctioneering School in June 1994 and has had Heglin Auction for the last 28 years.

He had a Servant’s Heart. He accepted the Lord when he was 17 years old. He was a youth leader for the Gate Methodist Church for many years. He wrote and directed a play about the Old Testament that involved over 30 youth and many adults. Costumes, sets and many hours of practice brought the play to life and helped raise money so they could attend the Passion Play in Branson, Missouri.

Robert was also on the Gate Fire Department. He was Fire Chief for many years and retired after 28 years of service.

He was president of the 100th Meridian Conservation Club. At their annual supper he prepared with help, his family’s secret rib recipe that was cooked over an open fire pit. His ribs were known far and wide.

Robert loved fishing, hunting, and in his earlier years raising greyhounds and coyote hunting, He also loved the St. Louis Cardinals.

He loved watching and following his kids and grandkids in any endeavor; from playing basketball, football, softball, baseball, volleyball, cheerleading singing, giving speeches showing cattle and racing Sprint Cars. Grandad loved them all!

Robert is preceded in death by his parents Bud and Hazel Heglin, Brother Dale Heglin and nephew Brent Curtis. He is survived by his wife Tereasa of the home, daughter Kelli (Kris), Kristi (Mark) and son Shad. Step children Tanya, Elicia and Charlie (Kara). They have 16 grandchildren; Kaden, Kenzi and Nikki Taylor, Maison and Hunter Moseley, Slater and Emma Heglin, Chanda West, Sonja and Brandon Mitch, Micah, Alexia and Rheanna Miller, Kaitlyn and Jagger Thex, Hunter Tune and 3 great grandchildren: Zenlie Bradley, Asher Mitch and Joshua Vandeyar.
