Rex Owen HendrickJune 11, 1938 ~ December 31, 2019 (age 81)
Rex Owen Hendrick was born on the 11th of June in 1938 to Asa and Gladys Hendrick in Buffalo, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of four siblings; Carol and Ray of the Laverne area and Paul up until the time of his death.
Being raised on the family farm just west of town, Rex grew up knowing the value of working hard and doing a good job at it. Rex and Carol were known to be the easy to handle children while Ray and Paul were the more curious and harder to handle kids!! Rex graduated with the class of 1957 from Laverne High School. After graduating high school, he then served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1962. After his military service, he attended Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He graduated in the field of diesel mechanics in April of 1965 and was a member of the Registrar's Honor Roll.
After graduation from Okmulgee he moved to El Paso, Texas in 1966 and in a short amount of time, found the love of his life, Luz Garcia, a local beauty, and married her on July 17th, 1966. They lived happily for 53 years until his parting. Together they had four children, Rex, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; John of Fallon, Nevada; Linda of Horizon City, Texas and Luz Elena of Clint, TX who have provided them with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and counting.
In 2000, Rex retired as a mechanic from the El Paso area and moved back to his home town with his precious wife, Luz, for almost 20 years. Rex and Luz attended the First Baptist Church and Rex could always be found on the very back row with his sister and brother in law! That's what good Baptist do you know. He served his community as a member of the American League and was an active member of Post 273. He was loved by his neighbors and had many friends in the community. Just a few years back Rex would go and visit Eddie Crigler, a friend from high school, during HIS last days of fighting cancer. Rex was a friend to everyone.
Rex was known for his good work ethic and demanded no less from his family. He parted on December 31st, 2019 with his wife, his four children and his brother and sister by his side. Rex will be greatly missed by wife, siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
