With family by her side, Ramona I. Davis, 75, of Vancouver, Washington peacefully passed away February 17, 2026. Ramona transitioned to her final resting place from the comfort of her daughter’s home.
Ramona was born in the small, rural town of Laverne, Oklahoma to Raymond E. Mead and Mary I. Sample-Mead on October 27, 1950. Ramona attended grade school in Laverne and in a neighboring small town, Knowles, OK. She was the youngest daughter of three; her eldest sister Jeanette Beard (of Follette, TX.) and her late sister, Almeta Ashlock.
On December 28,1965 Ramona married Don W. Davis. Ramona and Don had two children shortly after marriage: a daughter, Sherri D. Meck of Yacolt, WA. and a son, Sammy (“Sam”) D. Davis of Brush Prairie, WA. Ramona and Don separated from their marriage after 17 years and long after, Don passed away.
Ramona began an astonishing 39 year career at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital in Vancouver, Washington following the birth of her children. Ramona started in the nutritional services department working alongside family members of her then spouse. Ramona quickly transitioned to seamstressing and earned the title of what was then referred to as a “Master Seamstress”. An accomplishment she frequently and humbly reminisced about. Although she loved her work, Ramona also valued her time as a mother and grandmother. She remained very close to her children (and their spouses) the entirety of her life. Following an early onset of Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Ramona’s daughter Sherri (husband Kevin), and her son Sam (wife Debi) collectively evaluated her specific needs and acted on safety measures. Ramona fiercely fought for her independence, a quality that was well respected by many in the face of this life-altering, debilitating disease.
Ramona will be remembered for being steely and resolute; having hobbies that may come as a surprise for an individual of her stature. She was an avid fisherman and game hunter, and was a certified scuba diver. She took the opportunity to dive in the great barrier reef in Australia, as well as the clear waters of Cozumel, Mexico. When she wasn’t adventuring with these hobbies, Ramona would be found spending quality time with family or diligently caring for her home. Ramona cared for her own yard, and perfectly stacked cords of wood that supplied a stash towering over her in height. Family and friends will fondly remember her love for a tall glass of Coca-Cola and a simple cheeseburger after a day’s work.
Ramona will be abundantly cherished as a mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandma, and great-grandma. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Almeta, and her son-in-law Kevin.
A celebration of life has been arranged for close family in Ramona’s home-town of Laverne, Oklahoma.
