Norma Jean (Nester) Rolf

Norma Jean Nester Rolf was born December 12, 1931, to Fred and Ruth Nester and grew up in Laverne, attending Laverne Schools for all twelve years. Her first job was at the local movie theater working for Mr. Covey. She also worked at the drug store and the swimming pool.

Norma Jean married Lawrence (Shorty) Rolf on September 4, 1949 in Follett, TX. They had to get written permission from one of their parents since they were only 17. Over the next thirteen years, they had five children: Jackie, Melinda, Jerri, Danny and Susan.

Norma Jean was a homemaker throughout their marriage, raising the children and later helping Shorty with his business bookwork. Every Monday she went to his welding shop office to make out invoices and paychecks until they were able to set up an office in their home. The rest of the week was spent cooking, baking, ironing and cleaning. She made and canned lots and lots of dill pickles which were anticipated and devoured by many. She also made and canned jam. Norma Jean enjoyed going with Shorty to the farms east of town to check and feed cattle and see the baby calves.

She was known to her children as Mother, Mama and Mom and to her grandchildren as Grandma and Mammy.

Norma Jean left this life at her home with family by her side on April 5, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shorty, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and grandson Austin Riggs. She leaves behind sons Jackie (Mary) Rolf, Danny Rolf, daughters Melinda (Ron) Hall, Jerri (Randy) Riggs and Susan (John) Young, grandchildren Cheryl Rolf, Jeff Rolf (Angel), Billy (Kellie) Phelps, Charlie (Chresta) Phelps, Amanda (Albert) Anaya, Adam (Chrystal) Riggs, Tucker Rolf, Shalene (Jayson) Bentley, Chelsey Rolf, Daesha (Josh) Keithley, Kari Talbert, Jana McCoy, Aspen (Colby) Manning and Sady (Daniel) Manning and many great grandchildren.
