Nelson Wayne Purcell was born October 21, 1987 to Troy and Sandy Purcell in Shattuck, Oklahoma. He unexpectedly passed from this life on June 26, 2024. He was 36.
Nelson was raised in May, Oklahoma and began his academic study at Ft. Supply, Oklahoma and later transferred to Laverne, Oklahoma where he graduated in 2006. After graduation he had several medical conditions that required him to remain home while he healed. After his recovery, he became a student at Northwestern Oklahoma State University where he soon discovered that college was not the path he wanted to pursue. Nelson chose to return home where he informed his mother, Sandy, that he wished to join the work force instead. Oilfield work became his chosen career at that time.
In 2012, Nelson purchased a home in Woodward, Oklahoma. In May 2016, his parents, Troy and Sandy helped him pack and move to Florida when he aspired to pursue a degree from the Marine Mechanical Institute. After graduating from MMI, he moved to Kingston, Oklahoma where he worked in this industry for almost two years before making a move back to western Oklahoma, his one true home.
Upon his return, he worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation based in Buffalo, Oklahoma for 5 years. Nelson then began working for Valve-Tech in Woodward, Oklahoma where he was working the day he went to be with his Lord and Savior.
Hunting, fishing and cooking were his passions. If there was a hunting season, he and his best buddy Danny Welty, would be there. They had many memorable and unmentionable stories during their outings. His cooking skills ranged from smoking ribs and cooking on the outdoor grill to making excellent French Onion soup for his sister for Christmas. He also had the gift of patience and could repair and fix motors that no one else could.
Nelson is survived by his mother Sandy Purcell of May, Oklahoma; sister Lindsey Purcell of Pratt, Kansas; paternal grandfather Jack Purcell of Woodward, Oklahoma; his paternal aunt Sheryl Elliott of Edmond, Oklahoma and maternal uncles and aunts Randy and LeAnn Halliburton and Deana and Curtis Laverty all of Slapout, Oklahoma; Charles Halliburton of Tulsa, Oklahoma and numerous cousins and friends,
He was preceded in death by his father Troy Purcell; maternal grandmother Carol “Nana” Halliburton; maternal grandfather Jimmy Buss; maternal grandfather Raymond Halliburton; paternal grandmother Sandra “Granny” Purcell and paternal uncles Larry Purcell and Stephen Elliott.
