Merel Everett Moore was born December 16, 1929 and departed this life on October 24, 2020 at the age of 90 years and 10 months with his friend, Dee White, at his side.  He was one of seven children born to Ora D. and Pearl (Morris) Moore.

Merel served in the Korean War from 1951-1952 where he was a member of the 25th Division 35th Regiment.  After graduating from 8th grade, he entered the oilfield.  He worked on rigs traveling for many years and later became a contract pumper for Shell Oil Company.

In 1968, Merel and Gerald Nelson bought a racehorse.  They raced horses at several tracks including: Raton, Sunland Park, New Mexico State Fair, and a few tracks around Laverne, Oklahoma.  Merel later became a trainer himself and traveled the Nebraska Racing circuit.  He had a record of 2932 starts, 235 wins, 290 seconds and 303 thirds with many stakes race placings.  Merel trained horses until the age of 89 when his health began deteriorating.

Merel married Marjorie Elizabeth Edmisson in late 1952 and was with her until her death in 1959. He then married Wilma Bernice Aylett in August 1960 and they spent many years together while working in the oilfield, farming and raising racehorses.

Merel was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Pearl Moore, his stepmother Stella, his brothers Roy, Lowell and Ora "Dewey" Jr, his sisters Hazel, Dorothy and Vula, his wives Marjorie and Wilma and one daughter, Myrla Rae.

He is survived by daughter Lynda "Pearlene" Mitchell and her husband Phillip, daughter Pamela Burlingham and her husband David and son Darrel Moore and his friend Kathy Warkentin. He is also survived by grandchildren Casey Mitchell and his wife Sara, Lyna Mitchell, Kale Moore and his friend Nikie Boucher, Brett, Cordell, John Burlingham, Curtis Moore and his wife Chanda, Colten Moore and his wife Celeste, Dillon Moore, Corissa Osborn and Raylee Johnson. He is also survived by great grandchildren William and Dakota Flannery, Josie Burlingham, Kayln, Brodie and Braden Moore and Breckyn Osborn, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
