Marjorie Leona Dalrymple was born on August 9,1930 to Marion “Mike” and Jenny Dalrymple. She was born at the home of family friends near Sharon, Oklahoma. Marjorie grew up in the Harmon area along with older brother Dale and younger sister Ethelda. She attended country one room schools Parkman and Pleasant Valley. Marjorie told about Dale and her walking to school in winter after wrapping their feet in “gunny sacks”. Marjorie said the teacher kept a pan of water on the stove to warm their hands when they arrived. Dad Mike raised and sold watermelons and Mom Jenny was a homemaker.
Marjorie married Oscar Young in 1948 at Canadian, Texas. Four children were born to this union, Gary, Diana, Phillis and Ray. Oscar and “Margie” lived on a small farm near Vici, where they farmed broomcorn and raised cattle. Margie said “Those were good times!”. After selling the farm, the family moved to Vici and then to Taloga, Oklahoma.
In later years, Marjorie moved to Woodward where she worked at a sewing factory. She met Lawrence Price, her longtime companion and moved to Laverne and began working at Oklahoma Mental Hospital. She worked there as a housekeeper for many years until retirement.
Marjorie was baptized at the age of 83, in Ft. Supply Lake with grandsons Bryan and Jason at her side on “snake patrol”.
Marjorie and Lawrence enjoyed the retired life fishing, camping and enjoying the many grandchildren. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. On holidays, Grandma Margie would be sure to cook each child’s favorite dish, which made for a lot of food.
After Lawrence’s death, she lived on her own until the age of 93 when she, “protesting all the way”, moved into Park Point Assisted Living until her death.
Marjorie is preceded in death by parents, Mike and Jenny Dalrymple, brother Dale Dalrymple and sister-in-law Shelva Jean, sister Ethelda Oakes and brother-in-law Vernon, Son Gary Young and daughter-in-law Vonda, daughter-in-law Barbara Young, great granddaughter Tiffani and infant twin brothers, Merle and Earl, who died at birth, Oscar and Lawrence.
Family members remaining to celebrate Margie’s life are her children, Ray Young of Ft. Supply, Phillis Price and husband Melvin of Laverne, Diana and husband Robert of Amarillo, Texas.
