Maria Vera Obituary

Maria Ruiz-Vera of Englewood, Kansas died on January 13, 2023 in Garden City, Kansas. She was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico on January 7, 1931 to Juanita and Francisco Ruiz. She was raised in the mountains (Sierra) of Calvillo,  Aguascalientes where she loved riding horses and helping her family. She loved to share stories of her adventures in the mountains.

She married Antonio Vera in 1955 in Tabasco, Zacatecas. They moved to Gate, Oklahoma in 1981. She missed the mountains and warm weather and was always ready to get her suitcase and go back home. The family later moved to Englewood, Kansas. She worked at the Englewood Senior Citizen Center for many years. She served many people in her community Maria and Antonio made this their home. They raised goats, chickens and many other farm animals.  . Maria was always ready to cook for everyone who came to visit. Chicken mole became her specialty.  She enjoyed having friends over for big family meals on the weekend or anytime for coffee and cookies. As families around the Vera home grew, Maria became known as “Grandma”.

During the last 10 years, she has lived with her daughter Lupe and granddaughters in Garden City. She continued to spread her love and joy and made many new friends. She was loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.  He loved her family, friends, coffee with bread or cookies, and her tv shows.

She is survived by her daughters Librada and Lupe Vera; Grandchildren Ramon Vera, Angelica and Javier Hernandez, Alondra Granillo, Yuliana Granillo,  Selena Granillo; Great-grandchildren Maebon and Trae Vera, Alexa Olivares, Bianey and Camilla Hernandez. Maria is reunited with her husband Antonio, a daughter, sons Valentin, Juan Ramon and wife Lydia, her parents, sisters Josefina and Antonia, and great-granddaugher Karyme.

Nació en Aguascalientes, México el 7 de enero del 1931 de Juanita y Francisco Ruiz. Se crió en las montañas (Sierra) de Calvillo, Aguascalientes, donde le encantaba montar a caballo y ayudar a su familia. Le encantaba compartir historias de sus aventuras en las montañas.

Se casó con Antonio Vera en 1955 en Tabasco, Zacatecas. Se mudaron a Gate, Oklahoma en 1981. Ella extrañaba las montañas y el clima cálido y siempre estaba lista para tomar su maleta y volver a casa. Más tarde, la familia se mudó a Englewood, Kansas. Trabajó en el Centro de Ciudadanos Mayores de Englewood durante muchos años. Sirvió a muchas personas en su comunidad. María y Antonio hicieron de este su hogar. Criaron cabras, pollos y muchos otros animales de granja. . María siempre estaba lista para cocinar para todos los que venían de visita. El mole de pollo se convirtió en su especialidad. Le gustaba invitar a amigos a las grandes comidas familiares los fines de semana o en cualquier momento para tomar café y galletas. A medida que crecían las familias alrededor de la casa de Vera, María se hizo conocida como "la abuela".

Durante los últimos 10 años ha vivido con su hija Lupe y sus nietas en Garden City. Continuó difundiendo su amor y alegría e hizo muchos nuevos amigos. Fue amada y todos los que la conocieron la extrañarán mucho. Amaba a su familia, amigos, café con pan o galletas y sus programas de televisión.

Le sobreviven sus hijas Librada y Lupe Vera; nietos Ramón Vera, Angélica y Javier Hernández, Alondra Granillo, Yuliana Granillo, Selena Granillo; Bisnietos Maebon y Trae Vera, Alexa Olivares, Bianey y Camilla Hernandez. María se reencuentra con su esposo Antonio; una hija; hijos Valentín y Juan Ramón y esposa Lydia; sus padres y hermanas Josefina y Antonia; bisnieta Karyme.
