Margie Marie Byer was born November 30, 1936 in Ulysses, Kansas to Alfred and Ruth (Frisbee) Byer. She passed peacefully at her home on Monday, March 3, 2025 at the age of 88.
Margie attended school in Ulysses, Kansas. She married Tommy Maupin and together they had 3 children; Greg Maupin, Linda Maupin and Julie Maupin. Julie passed away 20 years ago. Tommy and Margie were married 35 years. Later, she married Darrel Ribbing and they moved to Ashland. She was a member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Liberal for 65 years.
For many years, Margie owned and operated her own business grooming dogs in Liberal, Kansas. She enjoyed riding horses, making quilts and reading. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a good cook and enjoyed experimenting with different recipes, many of which were her own. When she was younger, she always put out a large garden and more recently enjoyed growing house plants. She was always an outdoors girl and loved animals including her horses, miniature Dachshunds and her favorite cats Daisy and Thomas. She even had a rooster that lived across the street that she would “talk” with, crowing back and forth with him.
Margie is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Ruth Byer, her brothers Bill Byer and Chuck Byer, her sister Betty (Byer) Miller and her granddaughter Kristina (Sales) Miller.
She is survived by her husband Darrel Ribbing of the home, son Greg Maupin of Kansas City, Missouri and daughter Linda Maupin of Ashland, Kansas, grandchildren Brian Maupin, Jennifer Maupin, Steve Green and Jeff Green and several great grandchildren.
