Lucerne "Penny" Monta (Pinegar) Sumpter

Penny (Monta Lucerne Pinegar) Sumpter peacefully left this earth on June 13, 2023, joining her husband, Bob Sumpter, and other family members.  Penny was born on Feb. 22, 1929, to Avon and Vivian (Sutton) Pinegar.  Her husband, Bob Sumpter, her parents, her brothers (Avon Lee Pinegar and Robert Henry Pinegar) all preceded her in death.  Penny lived long enough to see her OU Softball Team become National Champions for the third time.  She loved watching all kinds of sports especially when a University of Oklahoma team was playing.

Penny is survived by her two sons, Thomas Michael (Tom) and Bob (Bobby) Sumpter as well as a nephew Dr. Greg Pinegar of Alva, Oklahoma, and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss her.

Mrs. Sumpter taught business classes at Laverne High School for many years.  Many generations of Laverne Folks owe their typing and bookkeeping skills to her.  She even taught etiquette to many classes prior to banquet times so we would all be prepared.

Penny was a long time member of First Christian Church and she will be missed.
