Linus Gerald Cates was born January 22, 1936 in Beaver County, Oklahoma, the son of Linus Elton and Nettie Belle (Garton) Cates. Gerald graduated from Yarbrough High school in Yarbourgh, OK in 1955. On August 21, 1955 he married the love of his life, Sharron Kay White in Eva, Oklahoma. Gerald was a proud farmer and rancher his entire life. He enjoyed checking cattle on a cool morning. He found joy in saddling up a nice horse and loved a good turn-out with his coyote dogs. His greatest joys in life were his family.
Many that knew Gerald have shared a common tribute, “Gramps loved people and he always had a great story to share.”
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sharron, his parents and siblings: brother Darrel Cates and sister Ilene Wells, also his brother-in-law Virgil Wells.
Survivors include sons: Mark Cates and wife Kim of Darrouzett, TX; Monty Cates and wife Betty of Laverne, OK; and daughter Robin Friskup and husband Steve of Muleshoe, TX.
Grandchildren: Mathew (Chelsi) Cates of Darrouzett, TX; Ty Cates of Booker, TX; Leah (Blake) Terrell of Darrouzett, TX; Kaci (Justin) Morris of Muleshoe, TX; Cassidy (Tyler) Ricke of Attica, KS; Jessica Cates of Ft. Worth, TX; Trew (Drew) Cates of Follett, TX; Kelsy (Jake) Ratliff of Lawton, OK; Maddie Cates (Hadley Thompson) Perryton, TX;
Great Grandchildren: Rider Morris, Wyatt Terrell, Kayhill Cates, Ransom Morris, Tanner Cates, Taisen Ricke, Everett Terrell, Tacksen Ricke, Rhett Ratliff, Taos Cates, Hewey Cates, Landry Cates, Chesni Cates, Haddie Cates, Tavlee Ricke.
And a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.
Gerald passed from this life on October 9, 2022 at the age of 86 in his hometown of Booker, Texas.
