Leslie Jake Herber

Leslie Jake Herber, age 76, passed away April 16, 2024, from sustained injuries in a car accident.  Leslie was born January 24, 1948, in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Virginia Lucille (Booth) and Wesley Herber.

Leslie attended 1st thru 10th grade at the Seventh Day Adventist Jr. Academy in Shattuck, Oklahoma and then went to Enterprise Academy in Enterprise, Kansas, where he graduated from High School in 1966.  He then attended Southwestern Adventist College at Keene, Texas where he met Sharon Kay Cottrell.  On August 11, 1968, Leslie married Sharon and they moved to Amarillo, Texas where Leslie graduated from computer Tech School.  Leslie and Sharon moved to Shattuck, Oklahoma after completing Tech School to help his father with the farm.

In March of 1971, Shattuck, Oklahoma, was hit with a severe snowstorm.  Because it was so deep that no one was able to drive, they sent a helicopter to the farm northwest of Shattuck and took Sharon to Shattuck, Oklahoma where Les and Sharon had their first child Leslie Jay.  Later that year they moved to Mustang, Oklahoma where their daughter, Stacy Kay was born.

In the spring of 1974 Les, Sharon and the family moved back to Shattuck to take over his dad’s dairy and they started building a dairy barn.  Les always told the story of his two grandpas at age 80 helping him and could out work him.

In later years he married LaDonna Cross, and he started his own trucking business and worked at Ellis County District 2, Shattuck, Oklahoma until he retired.

Everyone that knew Les, knew that his real love was doing something with a horse.   He had a team of Belgian horses, and he loved hitching up his horses to the wagon and give rides, sometime peaceful but occasionally maybe a runaway.  But the most important thing was having his family with him.  They were his life.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Virginia Herber and his wife, LaDonna Herber.

He is survived by his son, Leslie Jay, Jay’s son Tyrell and wife Madison and their daughter, Emma, and daughter Keltsie and son, Rigyn of Shattuck, Oklahoma; daughter Stacy and her son Heath Barton and wife Kailie and daughter Jacie of Shattuck, Oklahoma, and son, Jacob Parnell of Woodward, Oklahoma; stepdaughter Kim and husband Jeremy Clayton of Afton, Oklahoma.  Daughters Alli and husband Colten Gregory and daughter Eisley,  and daughter, Samantha of Afton, Oklahoma; stepson, Michael Sanders of Wetumka, Oklahoma and daughters, Kailey Sanders of Shattuck, Oklahoma and Kelsie Sanders of Woodward, Oklahoma; sisters, Sharon and husband Ken Norris of Kingston, Oklahoma, Janice and husband Paul Beran of Avon Lake, Ohio, and Debbie and husband Buddy Robertson of Shattuck, Oklahoma,  and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss his giving heart.

The family is planning a celebration of life later.
