Laurell Cossette Weidner was born to Robert Fulton Weidner and Leveda Mae Appel Weidner in Friona, Texas on April 23,1950. October 1965, as a sophomore at Amarillo’s Palo Duro High School, she met her soon to be to husband, Dennis Mathews. On June 3rd, 1967 Laurell Cossette Weidner became Lori Mathews. March 12, 1968 Lori gave birth to her first child, Michelle Denise Mathews. She gave birth to her second daughter Melissa Dee Mathews August 25, 1971.

Surviving family, her Mother Leveda Weidner, Husband Dennis Mathews, Sisters Pam Randall, Cindy Smith-husband Jimmy Smith, Daughters Melissa and Lance French, Michelle and Rich Hoch, Grandchildren Dylan French, Lexy French, Johnny Edwards, Mary Grace Edwards, and Great Granddaughter Natalie Edwards, niece Melinda and Dusty Kerr son Brayden, Nephew Justin and Ashley Smith and their son Aiden and daughter Avery.

Lori’s focus on life was always God first, family and love for others. She was a loving daughter and sister and was dedicated to her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She was a very, loving, giving lady, especially to children, she was affectionately known as the Church’s Grandmother.

July 10, 2014 God selected her and sent her on an incredible journey as a faithful witness for Him by being diagnosed with stage 4 in-operable Pancreatic cancer. Although the Doctors only gave her 7 weeks to 7 months of life expectancy, she knew and always assuredly stated that God was in control. She felt it a privilege that God had chosen her for this journey, and it was her God given mission to witness, pray, and encourage others. Her life story, her incredible journey of 4 ½ years, and her God inspired mission came to fruition when she stepped into eternity Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:16 PM. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
