LUCY HELEN (RICHARDSON) TANGNEY

Lucy Helen (Richardson) Tangney passed away on February 17, 2020 in Cheney Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Tangney, parents Harlan and Opal (Fields) Richardson, and her brother Donald Richardson.  Her parents welcomed their first child on April 19, 1929 in Enid Oklahoma.  Shortly thereafter the depression hit and the family moved to the May/Gage/Shattuck Oklahoma area where Lucy would spend her school years growing up. As the oldest of six, she had much responsibility with the day to day family affairs.  Specifically, she was tending to siblings, sewing and cooking, and the chores mandated by living during those times.  She always said the hard times were some of the best times.  On February 19, 1947, she married Louis Tangney and resided in Shattuck during the beginning of their lives together.

Eventually moving to Wichita KS, where her love of cooking and caring for family members was very evident.  Whether it was making waffles for grandkids or raisin pie and Bierrocks for family and neighbors, it was always about family. She enjoyed flower gardening, hummingbird watching and traveling.  But more so, she enjoyed her genealogy because it had to do with family. After many years of living in Humble, TX, Lucy and Louis retired and moved back to Shattuck where they enjoyed many years together, especially when family visited.  Lucy had a great wit about her and a very limited filtering switch. She would let one know whether you needed a haircut, clothes ironed, or you had gained weight and were looking puffy.  She would also give compliments without hesitation, sometimes with a catch and expectations.  During her last months she was able to attend multiple family weddings and receptions and enjoy the gathering of all her family members. Surviving family members:  Daughters:  Lora Sutterfield (Roger) of Edmond, OK, LuAnne Tangney (Diane East) of Oak Point, TX., Sons:  Lindy Tangney (Vonda) of Wichita, KS, Larry Tangney (Mary) of Wichita, KS, and Lon Tangney of Dallas, TX.  Grandchildren: Carey Sutterfield (Darcie), Casey Markland (John), Jamie Neusel (Jason), Bryan Tangney (Randi), Jared Tangney (Fiancé Lauren Osoba), Brandon Tangney (Kelsey), Rachel Tangney, and Justin Tangney.  Great Grandchildren: Theron Sutterfield, Oakley Haak (Luke), Dace Peters, Avery Neusel, Molly Neusel, George Neusel, Brynn Tangney, Carter Tangney, and London Tangney.  Brothers:  Kendall Richardson (Sharon), Nolan Richardson (Bobbie).  Sisters:  Glenda Northcutt (Marvin), Gale Sherrill (Danny). Sister in-law: Jan Richardson.  She leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins she loved dearly.

 Her faith in the Catholic religion and our Lord Jesus Christ brought her peace within the world.  She was asked what her words of advice to leave with her family: “Follow the Ten Commandments and help those that can’t help themselves.”

She was a mother and family matriarch, like no other.
