Joe Green Obituary

Joe David Green was born on November 19, 1954 to Charles and Idell Green in Shattuck, Oklahoma. He was the youngest of three siblings. On January 11, 2026 in Ashland, Kansas he peacefully entered his heavenly home.

Joe spent his early childhood in Garden City, Kansas before his family settled in Gate, Oklahoma.  He was the youngest of three children and was always eager to begin school, even though he was too young. He often played on the school playground, before and after hours, just to be around his siblings and friends. He attended Gate Schools until his junior year. The school district consolidated with Laverne and he graduated from Laverne High School in 1973. Throughout his school years Joe was active in basketball and baseball. After graduating high school he attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva for two years.

He met the love of his life Mona Rae Lenz while attending high school at Laverne. They were united in marriage on August 8, 1975.  To this union they were blessed with four children; Reid, Kasie, Dace and Katie. They raised their family in the Laverne area.

Through the years Joe was often found alongside his family at rodeos and sporting events. He was always cheering and eager to lend a helping hand. He devoted many years and countless hours to the NWOJR rodeos, putting on neck ropes and helping with all the events.  Joe and Mona also served on the NWOJR board. Together they generously gave their time to support an organization they deeply loved.

Joe’s working years began on the farm and ranch with his father‑in‑law, George Lenz Jr.  before entering into a lifelong career in the oil and gas industry. Over the years he was employed by Enron, Koch, and ONEOK where he continued until his retirement. Through his work Joe formed many lifelong friendships and earned the respect of those who worked with him. After retiring he entered a partnership with his son Reid on the family farm and ranch where his true passion lay.

Joe loved watching his family grow. His greatest blessings were his grandchildren and he deeply treasured every moment spent with them.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Idell Green; his sister, Sharon Swan; his brother‑in‑law, Ron Swan; and his father‑ and mother‑in‑law, George and Gay Lenz.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mona, of the home; his children, son Reid Green and wife Molly of Laverne, OK; daughter Kasie Winfrey and husband Dustin of Copeland, KS; son Dace Green and wife Tiffany of Burlington, OK; and daughter Katie Green of Laverne, OK; his grandchildren, Teegan Green, Dalton Winfrey, Tripp Green, Dyson Winfrey, Tinsley Green, Braxton Johnston, Jordyn Green, Trinity Condit, and Ramsey, Claynee and Quincy Green; his brother Alan Green and wife Gale of Oklahoma City, OK, brother-in-law Roy Lenz and wife Barbara of Laverne, OK and sister-in-law Yvonda Lenz of Woodward, OK.  He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were dear to his heart.

Joe will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his quiet generosity, and the deep love he held for his family and community. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
