Joann Harper Imke was born October 28, 1931, the first child of Homer and Mabel Powers Harper, in the small town of Apache, Oklahoma. When Joann was 5 years old, she began school at Coats, Kansas Elementary School. She was the smallest in her class.
Some years later, her Dad was transferred by A. C. Houston Lumber Co. to Panhandle, Texas. The family home was across the back fence from the lumber yard and Joann ran each evening to her Dad’s office to tell him that supper was ready. She was a real “Daddy’s girl”.
Joann was the eldest of 3 girls and the sisters are still close today. June came along and several years later baby Jenny.
Joann attended and graduated with honors from the public school in Panhandle. She did not go to college but did have some memorable employment. As private secretary to the County Attorney, Joann received a great education in Law. Mr. Frank Dove was County Attorney and a great and patient employer.
As time went by, Joann met the love of her life Lyndon Charles Imke. The couple married August 8, 1958. They parented 2 children; Charles W. Imke and Lyndonna Imke Williams. They now have 2 grandsons; Dezmond and Tajon Williams of Perry, Oklahoma.
Joann spent many years on the farm at Follett, Texas but never considered herself a farmer. Living in the country was great but the dynamic of farming always eluded her. She said the farm was a foreign country. She did like to cook for the helpers Lyndon hired from time to time.
Soon after moving to the farm with Lyndon, Joann joined the First Baptist Church of Follett where her membership is today. She joined the ladies activities and was active until health took its toll.
Joann will be laid to rest at the family plot in the Fairmont Cemetery of Follett. She considered her life well lived. God is good.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Lyndon Charles Imke. Her survivors include her son Charles W. Imke and wife Denise, daughter Lyndonna Williams and husband Kevin, grandsons Dezmond Williams and Tajon Williams, sisters June Chambers and Jenny Scholl and husband Bill, niece Rhonda Sitch and family and nephew Marcus Melton and family.
