Jim Winn Obituary

Jim Guy Winn was born Aug. 29, 1938 to J.B.& Evelyn Winn and was raised on the “Home Place” west of Slapout, Oklahoma.  After graduating from Laverne High School in 1956, his journey through life began. He married in April 1960, with his first child born in January 1961.  Dad enjoyed marriage and after the 3rd marriage, he always said “Wedding bells ringing, reminded him of an alarm clock.”

Dad eventually found a lifelong companion with Francis Nelson, aka. Franny. Through thick and thin, better or worse, they lived life together for more than 30 years.

Dad loved life and lived every day to the fullest, helping friends and family or anyone in need. He worked the oilfields from Louisiana to Colorado, worked for Caterpillar in Billings, Montana and eventually became self employed as a welder. Dad built barns and corrals for numerous ranchers in the area.

Dads’ hobbies were hunting, fishing, racing stock cars, raising mules and training bird dogs. He made many elk hunting trips to the mountains. His greatest passion was hunting quail over the top of a good set of bird dogs, while riding his mules.

Jim is survived by his lifelong companion Francis Nelson; two sisters Joan F. Gregory and Janet K. Dalton; one sister-in-law Carol Winn; his sons Jona, Craig, Gaylen and Gwen Winn; his daughter Jamie Roschell Winn; numerous stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother Joe E. Winn; nephews Shawn L. Green and Justin L. Winn; brothers-in-law Glenn Gregory and Richard Flippen and his parents.

A very heartfelt thank you to Laura Sanchez, Tommie McClain and Paul and Ginger Wallace for providing care for our Dad.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
