James (Jim) Pate Shearer was born on November 9, 1943, in Dodge City, KS, to Rheba (Pate) and Otis Claude Shearer on the same day his dad received his draft notice.  He died on November 27 at the Ochiltree General Hospital in Perryton, TX of Covid-19.  He will be buried at the Madison Cemetery Northeast of Slapout, OK. Graveside services will be on Wednesday, December 2 at 2 pm.

Jim spent his childhood in Booker, Texas, where he completed his first 12 years of his schooling.  The highlights of his high school years were competing in the mile relay at the state track meet in 1962 and being chosen as the “Fightingest Kiowa.”  He attended the University of Texas but graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s in business.  He later completed his teaching certificate at Panhandle State University.

In addition to working for Sunray DX in Indiana where his first three children were born, Jim taught in Perryton and Darrouzett, worked for the Lipscomb County Appraisal District, and served as Lipscomb County Judge before establishing Shearer Insurance Agency in Follett.

Jim married Mary Anne (Nine) Hogue on May 14, 1983.  Their son, Jordan, was born in June of 1984.

He served on the Follett City Council, was treasurer and member of the Methodist Church in Follett, was chairman of the Lipscomb County Republican Party, and was a member of the Lions club. He was also an Eagle Scout.

Jim loved his morning coffee time with friends at the Quick Stop where he was known as “Mr. Football.” To say he was an avid sports fan is an understatement.

Survivors include: wife, Mary Anne; daughters, Jamie and Brian Foreman of Buckeye, AZ, and Pam and Ruben Ortega of Dumas, TX; sons, Brad and Heather Shearer of Weatherford, TX, and Jordan of the Slapout community; stepson, Jeremy Hogue of Follett; brothers, Otis and Bonnie Shearer of Booker, TX, and Joe and Roberta Shearer of Sacramento, CA; sisters-in-law, Janie Robertson of Slapout, Connie and Bob Ewy of Overland Park, KS, Linda Nine of Wichita, KS; brother-in-law Carl and Alice Nine of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Kaymen and Kira Foreman, Brendan and Maddie Fox, and CJ Ortega; step-grandchildren, Tyler, Allyson, Karli, and Gracie Ortega and Braydon Parker; one step-great grandson, Bo; and four nieces, eight nephews and families plus many cousins.
