Herbert Leroy Bechthold went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 26, 2026. Herbert was born on November 29, 1929 to Conrad and Lillie (Koch) Bechthold.
Herbert married the love of his life, Helen Ann Meier on July 30, 1961. To this union two sons were born, Scott Shawn and Kevin Wayne. Both boys graduated with honors from Booker High School.
Herbert graduated from Darrouzett High School and served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. During that time, he was stationed in Germany for two years. After his tour of duty, he returned to the Booker area and took over the family farm. He served on the Darrouzett School Board; Lipscomb County Farm Bureau and Church Council of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for several years. In October of 2006 he and Helen joined St. John Congregational Church where he served as Trustee for several years.
Herbert retired from farming in 2003. He and Helen enjoyed traveling to 49 of the 50 states and visiting their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry and Irvin and two sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and Don Travis and Irene and Don Gensman, one sister-in-law, JoAnn Bechthold and one grandson, Nicholas Bechthold.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of 64 years, and two sons, Scott and Julie Bechthold of McKinney, Texas; Kevin and Crystal Bechthold of Colmesneil, Texas; five grandchildren: granddaughter-in law, Faythe Bechthold of Waynoka, Oklahoma; Heath Bechthold and fiancé, Patricia Mota of Greenville, Texas; Savannah and John Porter of Sherman, Texas; Brandi and Justin Brown of Guthrie, Oklahoma; Brent (of the US Navy) and Carly of Smithfield, Virginia; Bradley and Amber Bechthold of Grapevine, Texas, 13 great grandchildren and one brother, Clyde Bechthold of Booker, Texas.
