Gerald F. Stevens, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg, Colorado. He was born May 15, 1923, in Beaver County Oklahoma, to Glen R. and Thelma (Hergert) Stevens.
He served in the 739th Tank Battalion during World War II. In 1941, he won second place in the brahma bull riding contest at the annual Laverne rodeo. He was a Master Mason member, Golden eagle member of the National Rifle Association of America (NRA), and a Member of the American Legion. He was awarded his High School Diploma in 2008, which was dated back to 1943.
His life was spent carrying out multiple different adventures as a cowboy and truck driver. Throughout his life he had a love for horses and farming. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, such as chatting with friends, family, traveling, and spending time with those he loved.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Martha Jane (Meliza) Stevens, parents Glen and Thelma Stevens of Laverne, brothers Gale Stevens of Texas and Allen Stevens of Laverne, and sister Darlene Scott.
He is survived by four children Gina and Gary Stevens of New Mexico, Glen L. Stevens and his wife Jennifer of Raton, NM, Hope Neurauter of Raton, NM, and sister Colleen Hiner of Oklahoma. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
