She attended school in Follett. The highlight of her high school basketball career was being the only high school team invited to the AAU National Tournament in St.  Joseph, Missouri in March of 1946.

On March 22, 1947, Georgia married Calvin J. Gillespie in Amarillo, Texas. To this union, five children were born: Darrel, Sue, Kathie, Lila, and Twila. They made their home in Follett, Texas.

In the early part of the 1950’s Georgia and Calvin moved to Highmore, South Dakota. After four years they returned to Follett. In 1961 Calvin built the Panther Cove and Georgia ran the restaurant. Three years after opening the Cove, they sold it to Robert and Betty Redelsperger, and bought the Young Ranch outside Darrouzett, Texas and moved their family to what became the Gillespie Farms. While living at the farm Calvin and Georgia owned and operated the Gillespie Family Mart in Follett. In 2000, after the sale of the farm, Calvin and Georgia moved back to Follett.
