George Roy Lenz passed away at his home in Laverne, Oklahoma at the age of 88 on November 23, 2023.
He was born October 13, 1935, in Dodge City, KS to George and Ruth (Barby) Lenz, at the home of his Grandma and Grandpa Lenz. He lived his whole life in rural Laverne. He attended Laverne schools and graduated from Laverne High School in 1953. Throughout his school years he worked alongside his Grandpa Barby on the ranch any opportunity he had.
On May 26, 1956, he married Gay (McAtee) Lenz at the Baptist Church in Laverne, Oklahoma. To this union they had three children: Mona, Roy, and Yvonda. In the early years of their marriage, he worked in the oil field and continued to ranch for his Grandpa Barby. He later was able to purchase enough land to start his own farm and ranch where he raised his family. Through the years he supplemented his income with a custom bailing and hay hauling service. George was an avid horseman, he loved to share his knowledge and skills with his family and anyone who showed interest. He was his grandchildren’s number one fan and was found at all their rodeos cheering them on. Over the years in his downtime, he enjoyed studying his Bible, dancing with the love of his life, reading books, traveling to visit family, and keeping everyone on their toes with his orneriness.
Survivors include his three children: daughter Mona (Joe) Green of Rosston, son Roy (Barbara) Lenz of Laverne, and daughter Yvonda Lenz of Woodward; grandchildren, Reid Green (Molly), Kasie Winfrey (Dustin), Dace Green (Tiffany), Katie Green, Dallas Love (Nikki), and Tyrell Love (Kasey); and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George was preceded in death by his wife on November 19, 2004, parents, one brother, two sisters, two nephews and one niece.
