Everett Smith Obituary

Everett Dee Smith went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning at his beloved home in Laverne at the age of 83.

Everett was born on November 29, 1942, in Alva to John and Beatrice Smith. He was the youngest of six children. He spent his childhood on the family ranch southwest of Englewood, where he learned the value of hard work and every aspect of ranch life alongside his parents and older siblings. Those early years remained dear to his heart throughout his life.

After spending time working in many trades and living throughout the area, Everett and his family made their home in Laverne in 1979. Though he lost sight in his left eye at an early age, he never allowed that challenge to slow him down. Everett had a natural gift for flying and was known for his confidence and precision as a pilot.

He was exceptionally mechanical and seemed able to do anything he set his mind to. Whether repairing tractors and automobiles, building a home, ranching, trucking, or working in the oil and gas industry, Everett believed that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right. In his younger years, he loved fast cars and could tell a story about nearly every one of them, along with stories from the many adventures and jobs that marked his life.

In February of 1962, Everett married Judy Saxon. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and perseverance. From this union came three children: Everett Dee Smith Jr., Laurie Denise, and Sunday Ann.

Following many trials in life, including a devastating car accident south of Laverne in 1991, Everett gave his heart to the Lord. Though later years brought health challenges, he continued to live a full and meaningful life surrounded by those he loved most.

Everett treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He often recruited them to help on the farm. While a few learned how to build a proper fence, the rest became quite skilled at hiding to avoid learning the trade. He also loved to prankingly scare anyone he could, taking great joy in catching family and friends off guard and then sharing a laugh afterward. Those moments became treasured family memories and reflected both his playful spirit and deep love for those around him.

In his free time, Everett enjoyed yard work, gardening, working Sudoku puzzles, and opening his home to family gatherings. One of his greatest joys was spending each evening watching Gunsmoke with Judy.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Smith; and his siblings, Johnny, Loyd, Jessie, Bobbie, and Bernard.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Smith; his children, Everett Dee Smith Jr., Laurie Postoak, and Keith and Sunday Kilcrease; his grandchildren, William and Kaily McCardle family, Seth and Caroline Postoak family, Luke and Jill Postoak family, Cale and Kennedy Smith family, Kole and Ashley Kilcrease family, Payam and Lane Ishani family, Brad and Rachel Royer family, and Madison Kilcrease; along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Everett will be remembered for his resilience, wisdom, storytelling, adventurous spirit, humor, deep love for family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity Faith Fellowship at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026.
