Elma Bernice Wiggins Riggs was born in Cleo Springs, OK on August 7, 1929 to Knolt Eshnel and Alice Annabelle Wiggins. And left this earthly home March 12, 2025 at the age of 95 years.
Elma grew up in Enid, OK. She loved spending time on the farm with Uncle Harold and Aunt Minnie Ring. She came to Laverne to help her cousins on their farm where she met and fell in love with Arles (Junior) Riggs. They were united in marriage, September 24, 1947 in Carmen, OK. They moved to Laverne in 1948. Out of that union they had 4 children. Dianna Joyce, Linda Kay, Randal Alan and Deborah Rene.
Elma loved everything about the country life. You could find her anywhere from milking cows to running equipment in the fields.
She enjoyed all sports and she played 2nd base for the Softball Kiowa Indians. She also enjoyed bowling with her friends on the Riggs Mud League, where she won 2nd place in state.
Elma absolutely loved hunting, she said she could outhunt anyone and even made the news when she shot her last buck at the age of 92. Elma loved spending time with Arles (Junior) where they would travel to several countries and went on many trips to camping in Colorado with family. Elma and Nina would load up the campers and go on their yearly camping and fishing trip and even left in the middle of the night one night after the kids weren’t going to let her drive. She even won the biggest fish trophy at Fun Valley one year.
Elma enjoyed hosting many holidays at her home with not only family but anyone who wanted to come. One holiday she had over 60 people at her home. Her heart was as good as gold. She never turned anyone away and there was always room for one more. She was full of life, always looking for the good, and a new adventure. She will be missed by so many family and friends.
