Eleanor Jean (Shinnault) Long

Miss Eleanor "Jean" Shinnault Long died peacefully in Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, October 14th in Houston, Texas at the age of 93.

Jean is survived by her children, Renee, Joan, and Jerilyn; her six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Long of Guiderock, Nebraska and her sister, Wilma Ruth of Forgan, Oklahoma. 

Jean was born on May 13,1927 in Forgan, Oklahoma to Stephen Douglas Shinnault and Roxie Irving Durham Shinnault. She married Gerald Calvin “Jerry” Long, describing their meeting as “love at first sight” in 1950, after a brief, three-month courtship. After moving to Beaver, Oklahoma, the couple welcomed three children into their home. Her children remember her as a driven mother who encouraged them to be independent women.

She was a hard-working individual who loved history and who was passionate about her grandchildren. She was an active and dedicated member of the Nazarene Church of Beaver until her departure in 2006 to live closer to family.
