Dorothy File of Follett, TX joined her beloved husband, Bill File, in heaven this week.

Dorothy was a devoted wife and mother, an excellent cook and talented seamstress. She was married to Bill File for 54 years and together they raised three daughters, Carolyn, Darla and Patricia. Dorothy was an active participant in the County Extension club for many years and more recently in the Perryton Daytime Quilt Guild. She made beautiful quilts for the Quilts of Valor program as well as pillow cases and Christmas stockings for pediatric cancer patients. She also enjoyed baking pies and other goodies for every special occasion she could. Dorothy loved to travel and enjoyed trips with her daughters in her later years.

Born June 1, 1938 in Ringling, OK, Dorothy was a survivor. Not only did she beat colon cancer and two terrible car wrecks, she battled heart trouble and put up with a very ornery man, the love of her life, for over 50 years. Bill always called her his “helpmate” because she supported and took care of him and their family in every way. Dorothy died of what appears to be a heart attack at the age of 80.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” File of Follett, TX, her parents Pete Baldwin and Catherine Maxwell or Ringling, OK and son-in-law James Stacy Hawkins Sr. of Oklahoma City, OK.

She was survived by daughters Carolyn File, Darla Green, and Patricia Hawkins, son-in-law Dale Green, and grandchildren Dalton Green, James Hawkins Jr, Bethany Hawkins, Quinton Hawkins and Morgen Cammack all of the Oklahoma City area.

Memorial donations made in Dorothy’s name may be made to The League House at 7000 Amarillo Blvd West, Amarillo, TX 70106. This non-profit facility provides housing for patients and families receiving medical care in Amarillo. Dorothy stayed there many nights while seeking treatment for herself and Bill, and now considers everyone there her second family.
