Doris Charlene Randall Hughes, days after celebrating her 88th birthday, passed away on April 22, 2024 in Longmont, Colorado.
Charlene was born April 13, 1936 in Ashland, Kansas. She was the devoted wife to her late husband, Milton, for 56 years, a loving mother to her son Randall , and beloved mother in law to Kathryn Hughes of Berthoud, Colorado. She was Grammy to her grandchildren, serving as coerced hockey goalie to Nicholas, and enjoyed reading books to Holly.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances York Randall, and her brother Warren Randall.
Charlene graduated from Ashland High and received a degree in Education from Southwestern University. She was an elementary teacher and librarian in Liberal, Kansas for 40 years.
After serving as organist/pianist for United Methodist Church in Liberal, Charlene retired in Ashland, where she resumed playing for Ashland Bible Church. She was obsessed with NCAA sports, as well as her grandchildren’s hockey, softball and soccer games, and dance competitions.
Charlene was always known to have a freezer full of homemade cookies, ready for the taking, when family or friends visited. She was a member of PEO, and cherished the luncheons with her close friends.
