Darlene Chloe Nelson, 80, passed away on December 13, 2021. Darlene was from Gate, OK and resided in Elkhart, KS. Her passion was her green thumb and growing the most plentiful gardens and beautiful flowers. Who would have ever thought a Magnolia tree would survive in Elkhart, KS.? Darlene was determined and the tree still lives today.
Darlene was born on her family farm north of Gate, OK. She was the daughter of the late W.G. Miller and Helen Lorene Miller. She worked the farm along side her family growing up. In her high school years, she loved sports and basketball became her favorite game. In 1959 she helped lead her team to a Class C State Runner up title. She later met Monty Nelson, married and had two boys. Darlene worked as the Central Supply Department Manager at the Morton County hospital 25+ years until she retired.
Her family will surely miss her homemade Christmas bags. Siblings, sons and grandchildren looked forward to the excitement of receiving these bags every year just as much as she enjoyed making them. She made homemade peanut brittle, fudge, popcorn balls and chocolate peanut clusters to name a few. Every bag contained a homemade gift of crocheting and Christmas hand towel.
She is survived by her two children, son Kenny Nelson and wife Kimberly; son Kevin Nelson and fiancé Toni; grandchildren Bryce and Tish Nelson, Ben and Bekki Hill, Breanna and Jamie Andriot; great grandchildren Jaxon, Oakley and Aurora; brothers Mike and Cynthia Miller; Glenn Miller and life partner Kim.
