Coleen Marie (Hickmon) Winn

Coleen Marie (Hickmon) Winn, of Laverne, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the age of 96.

Coleen was born on July 30, 1927 in Laverne, Oklahoma to David and Alta Hickmon. She graduated from Laverne High School in 1945 and attended college at New Mexico State for a short time.

After college she moved back to Laverne where she met her best friend and the love of her life, Johnny Winn in 1946. They were united in marriage on August 20, 1947. From this union they had Jerry David Winn in 1948 and Sandra Jo Winn (Brewer) in 1954.

They settled 8 miles south east of Laverne in 1952 and began a successful farm and ranch operation. They built their forever home there in 1964 and remained there until their passing.

In her free time Coleen enjoyed fishing, gardening, sewing and she was an excellent cook. She loved to entertain and have friends over for dinner and cards. Coleen helped out immensely on the farm. You could always rely on her to build fence, work calves, move cattle, ride a tractor or drive a truck. She was a hard worker and tough as nails. She continued to run her own cattle for 16 years after Johnny’s passing in 2002.

Coleen was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Laverne and was baptized at a young age. She received a perfect attendance certificate as a child for her faithfulness and as an adult was often times seen helping cook and serve meals in the kitchen or singing in the choir.

Aside from children, her life’s greatest joy was in her grandchildren; Kirk, Desiree, Keri, Shawn, John Ray and Kyle.

Coleen was preceded in death by her best friend and husband John H. Winn, her parents, her siblings, her daughter-in-law Elaine (Tillary) Winn and nephew Leo Spaeth.

She is survived by her children; Jerry and wife Janet of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Sandra and husband Phil Brewer of Woodward, Oklahoma, grandchildren; Kirk and Katie Brewer of Park City, Utah, Desiree Crouse of Leedey, Oklahoma, Keri and Marty Wiebold of Woodward, Oklahoma, Shawn and Cristi Winn of Mooreland, Oklahoma, John Ray and Brooke Winn of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Kyle and Kristy Brewer of Woodward, Oklahoma and 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and countless family and friends.
