Clinton Ray Hanshu was born October 25, 1946 in Higgins, Texas to Carl and Gertrude Hanshu, and raised on a farm near Darrouzett, Texas. After graduating from Darrouzett High School in 1965, Clinton attended Texas Tech University, graduating in 1969 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He went to work for Halliburton in the Rio Grande Valley and for Westinghouse in Austin, Texas in 1971. He owned his own business, got his pilot’s license and raced Corvettes.
In 1974, he moved back to Darrouzett, re-opened his business and began farming alongside his father. They were the first in the area to grow soybeans, mung beans, guar, and cotton. After moving to Shattuck, OK, Clint built a “T-Bucket” hot rod, an ultralight plane, and a modified dragster.
Clint retired from farming and moved from Shattuck, OK to Sedona, Arizona in 2011 and later to Costa Rica and Colorado. During this time frame, he built his own experimental sport plane and joined a pilots’ organization called the Quiet Birdmen.
He was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in January 2020 and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in September 2020. He met Harriett “Happy” Thayer and they were married in June 2023. Clint died July 14, 2024 in Nashville.
He is survived by his wife, Happy, of Spring Hill, TN; daughter Amy (Jason) Hancock of Nashville, TN; granddaughter Mollie Hancock of Nashville, TN; sister Carla (Terry) Bilderback of Austin, Texas; niece Andrea (Barry) Goodrich of Katy, TX; nephew Brady (Kendra) Trenfield of Shattuck, OK; stepsons Jerry Fitz of Gage, OK; Justin Fitz of Shattuck, OK; and Even Rogers of Colorado Springs, CO; stepdaughters Annett (Chris) Northrup of Spring Hill, TN; Dawn (Lars) Larson of Key West, FL; and Kelly (Blake) Edwards of Anchorage, AK; and 10 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents in 2007. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, July 26 at 2pm at the Thompson’s Station United Methodist Church, 1517 Thompson’s Station Road W., Thompson’s Station, TN. Visitation will be from 1:30-2pm. A memorial and graveside service will be held in Shattuck, OK in the fall.
