Clifford Lee Cook was born April 19, 1946, to Edgar and Laura Ann (Piersall) Cook in Shattuck, OK. He was raised on their family farm in Catsby, OK, attended grade school at Catsby Country School, then attended and graduated from Follett in 1964. Clifford then went on to attend West Texas University for two years, and soon after, married his high school sweetheart, Carol Kliewer, on June 24, 1967.
They started out living in the Amarillo, TX area, where he made a living first working at Pantex and then owning his own filling station in Canyon. Not long after, they eventually made their way back home to Follett. There he worked various jobs: Laubhan Motor Company, owned the old filling station on main street in Follett, owned Cook’s Service Center, farmed, ran a crew erecting center pivots, worked as a gunsmith and so much more. In his later years, Clifford went to work in the oil field where he retired from CP Energy in 2016.
Clifford was known as a man of many trades: mechanic, welder, farmer, metal artist, fixer, do-it-yourselfer. You name it, and he could do it. He kept everything, fixed anything, and helped anyone. Hunting and fishing were his favorite pastimes, and he was also a member of the Follett United Methodist Church, a volunteer firefighter, and EMT.
He and Carol had three children: Christi, Melody, and Coby. They were the joy of his life until the grandkids came along. Landry, Kaylan, Halle, Logan, Marshal, Megan, Jerah, Tyler, and Haddie all had him wrapped around their fingers. He made sure to share his wealth of knowledge and skills with them, and instilled in them the value of hard work and helping out a neighbor. He was a no-nonsense man who always spoke his mind, but helped raise Landry, Kaylan, and Halle with the grit and grace of a father.
He leaves behind his wife Carol, daughters Christi Smith and husband Johnny, and Melody Howard and husband Michael all of Follett, Texas; his son Coby Cook and wife Stephanie of Laverne, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Landry Caldwell and wife Kayla, Marshal and Megan Howard all of Follett, Texas; Kaylan Harris and husband Cody of Baxter Spring, Kansas; Halle Zybach and husband Zane of Wheeler, Texas, Logan Cook and wife Diona; Jerah, Tyler and Haddie Cook all of Laverne, Oklahoma; three great-granddaughters Piper, Marlee, and Noah; sister Darlene Plank of Amarillo, TX, brother, Gary Cook of Topeka, KS, his aunt Sherry Frazier and husband Garland of Amarillo, many nieces, nephews and friends.
