William "Bill" Sam Zollinger
March 8, 1937 ~ February 4, 2018 (age 80) 80 Years OldWilliam Sam Zollinger (Bill), son of Claude and Mildred, was born March 8, 1937 in Buffalo, Oklahoma and departed this life February 4, 2018 at the Buffalo Hospital at the age of 80.
Bill graduated from Laverne High School with the class of 1954. He married Jeanetta Crocker Ashpaugh and also became dad to Brad Ashpaugh on November 9, 1956. Bill and Jeanetta had three more children: Lori, Kristi and Burke.
Bill spent his adult life working the oil field and ended his oil field career working for and with his good friends, Bill and Bud Husted. After retirement he continued ranching and enjoyed his cattle until the end of his life.
Over the years, Bill served on the Laverne School Board, Stock Show Board, Harper County Fair Board and was very involved in raising money for the local 4-H and FFA students. Bill was one of the original founders of the Way Out West Cattle Show which remains in existence today. Bill received the Local Honorary Chapter Farmer Award and the Honorary State FFA degree.
Bill enjoyed raising show cattle, taking his cattle to various sales and watching students show his livestock the country.
Bill loved kids, giving money to kids, dancing, telling stories, playing jokes and just conversing with people. He had a contagious laugh.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Mildred; infant sister Shirlene; brother Richard; son Burke and the love of his life, his wife Jeanetta.
Bill is survived by his son and wife, Brad and Susan Ashpaugh; his oldest daughter and husband, Lori and Cecil Maynes, all from Laverne; his youngest daughter and husband, Kristi and Mark Obermiller from Norman, Oklahoma: one sister, four brothers, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
