WYONA FAYE (MCAFEE) BARRINGER

Wyona Faye Barringer (Skeeter) was born December 8, 1933 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Andy McAfee and Thelma Faye McAfee.  She had one sister Marlene and two brothers, Jerry and Charlie.  Wyona was nicknamed Skeeter by her Uncle because she was so tiny at birth he said she was as small as a skeeter.

Skeeter married Richard Lindsey Sr. in 1946 and of that marriage eight children were born, four boys and four girls. They later divorced in 1980.  Skeeter then married Richard (Dick) Barringer in 1986.  They lived in several places including Dimmitt, TX, Amarillo, TX, Bula, TX, Gruver, TX, Newton, KS and Optima, OK before ending up in Gage, OK for the last 20 or so years.

Skeeter spent her life taking care of her family.  She worked in many restaurants and quick stops cooking.  She loved to cook and it showed especially in her prize winning bread.  She was once offered the opportunity to go to Culinary Arts School but she turned it down so she would not have to be away from her kids.  She was an active Girl Scout Assistant Leader in Dalhart, TX for seven years and then helped in Gage, OK for about 4 years until she had a stroke that made it impossible for her to help anymore.  She loved working with all of the girls teaching them cooking and sewing and other activities.  She also loved to play pitch with her husband and friends and other card games.  In her younger days she loved to go dancing.  She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family. 

Skeeter was proceeded in death by her parents Andy and Thelma McAfee, Daughters Margie Gail Lindsey and Rita Faye Mayhew Merida, a son, Sam Porter Lindsey and two grandsons Michael David and Jason Ryan Scott.  She is survived by her sister Marlene Ridings and brothers Charlie and Jerry McAfee.  Children Andy C. Lindsey of Gruver, TX, Arthor Ray Lindsey and wife Danette of Vega, TX, Norma Gail and Jeryl Bellar of Enochs, TX, Virginia Mann and husband Tracy of Gage, OK and Richard Lindsey Jr. and wife Wendy of Shattuck, OK, as well as 55 Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.  Skeeter never met a stranger and she was loved by everyone who knew her.  She will be remembered  for her smile and her passion and caring for her friends and family.
