Stanley Duane Dorsey, 81, born in Ashland, KS on March 10, 1936 was a resident of Las Cruces, NM for 55 years, passed away on June 18, 2017 in Las Cruces, NM. 

Duane completed his degree in Architecture at Kansas State University in 1961. He moved to Las Cruces, NM in 1962 to work for the architectural firm of Gerry Hartger.  In 1967 he became the first University Architect for New Mexico State University where he worked until retiring in 1988.  Duane was very proud of the architectural master plan he created for NMSU which has given the university a large part if its culture that will endure forever.  After retirement, Duane's entrepreneurial nature and experience were key to the creation of SARA Systems where he and his partners created software for architectural and construction management.  In 1997, Duane and his daughter Lisa started Q-CAD, Inc. to provide drafting services to architecture and engineering firms throughout the United States.  He continued to work daily at Q-CAD until he passed on.

 

Duane married Marilyn Stegman in December of 1962.  He is survived by his four daughters Alisia (Lisa) Darnold of Albuquerque NM, Lynn Schultz of Thornton CO, Cathy Dorsey of Las Cruces NM and Shawnna Slatten of Ft. Worth TX.  He has 2 grand children Samuel Schultz (17) and Haley Schultz (13), and 3 son-in-laws Joel Darnold, Glen Schultz and JD Slatten.
