Robert Glenn Davis was born to William Penn Davis and Edna Estella (Stenger) Davis on June 7, 1930, in Ashland, Kansas.  He died November 3, 2017, at the Ashland Healthcare Center after an extended illness.

Bob attended Ashland Public Schools, graduating in 1948.  His first two years of college were in Oklahoma City at Midwest Christian College and Oklahoma Christian University.  He completed his undergraduate work at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, majoring in piano performance, but also beginning his German language studies.  After graduating from Bethany, he continued his language study in Germany at the University of Heidelberg.  At the end of his year in Germany, Bob entered the United States Army, serving at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, as the chaplain’s assistant, which meant that he played the piano or organ for all services held there.

In 1960, Bob began his career at Bethany College, teaching German there for 14 years.  But in 1974, his father had a series of strokes, so Bob moved to Wichita to help care for him until his death in 1976.  At that time, Bob began working at Boeing Aircraft and was there for 14 years.  After retiring from Boeing, he moved back to Ashland where he taught German for Dodge City Community College Extension program in Ashland, gave piano lessons in his home and was active in his church.  Later, because of his declining health, Bob moved to the Ashland Health Center in July of 2011 where he received excellent care and much TLC from the wonderful staff there.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Lee (Davis) Baker and his nephew, Kerry Clark Davis.  He is survived by his brother, Bill Davis; four nieces: Glennie Tanner, Joyce Colaw, Melanie Davis, and Sandi Weece; two nephews:  William Davis and Jeff Davis; plus their families.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Christian Church, Ashland, Kansas, on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:30 am.  Memorial gifts may be given to First Christian Church in Ashland 507 North Highland, Ashland, KS 67831.
