Phyllis "Peggy" (Grimes) Wilson

Phyllis Hope “Peggy” (Grimes) Wilson, 97, died Sept. 26, 2019, at Pioneer Manor nursing home in Hugoton, Kan.

She was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Ashland, Kan., to William Bryan and Hope Vaudith (McCasland) Grimes, and was raised in Ashland with her brothers, Robert B. Grimes and William M. Grimes. She attended college for a year in Emporia, Kan. She married Jerome “Jerry” Wilson on April 26, 1942. She resided in Ashland until 2012, when she moved to Ulysses, Kan., to be near family. She lived at Pioneer Manor for two years before her passing.

She worked for attorneys F.N. “Rusty” Cossman, Willis Shattuck and Sarah “Sally” Shattuck, and for Raymond and Leta Broadie at the sale barn in Ashland. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church where she held many offices and sang in the choir. She learned to play bridge as a child and was an ardent player throughout her life. She was a world traveler, visiting China, Denmark, Germany, Italy, South America and many other places.

She is survived by her nieces Cynthia (Grimes) Siebert and Kimberly Grimes; nephews Charles R. Grimes, Roger I. Grimes, William G. Grimes and Greg Grimes; great-nieces Prudence Siebert and Kendra (Siebert) Bishop; great-nephews Todd Grimes, Troy Grimes and Jason Perez; as well as several great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, nieces Jamie Lynne Grimes and Michelle Grimes, and great-nephew Toby Grimes.
