Norma Jean (Houghtaling) Koch

Norma Jean (Houghtaling) Koch passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Share Convalescent Home in Alva, Oklahoma at the age of 84. She was born August 5, 1933, in Mankato, Kansas to Clifford Dean and Doris Glee (Downing) Houghtaling.

Norma graduated from Mankato High School in 1952. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for a local hardware store, and then drew blood for a medical facility in Beloit, Kansas, where she was introduced to her future husband by mutual friends. She was married to Leroy Koch of Higgins, Texas, on May 7, 1958. They had 1 daughter, Kathy.

For 30 years, the family made their home in Greensburg, Kansas. Norma dedicated herself to being a full time homemaker, involved with family interests, church activities, and assisting for several years as a Girl Scout troop leader. The family enjoyed many memorable vacations and camping trips together through the years.

Leroy and Norma returned to live in his home town of Higgins, Texas, in 1990, after Leroy's retirement from the Greensburg booster station of the Cities Service Gas Company. Norma entered the Shattuck Nursing Center in Shattuck, Oklahoma in December 2013.  On June 1, 2015 Leroy and Norma moved into the Share Convalescent Home in Alva, Oklahoma.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Leroy. She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Koch of Alva, Oklahoma.

Private family services were Thursday, April 5, 2018 in the Higgins Cemetery, Higgins, Texas with the Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, OK in charge of arrangements.
