Melvin Moseley Obituary

Melvin Wayne Moseley was born December 6th, 1932, to Bascom Butler Moseley and Emma (Wohl) Moseley in Moorewood, Oklahoma.  He started his schooling by attending the one room Custer school house until the 4th Grade.  From 4th to 9th grades, he attended Moorewood School.  He completed his remaining HS years and was a 1951 graduate of Leedey High School.

After high school, Melvin attended Oklahoma A&M on a track scholarship and was a member of the 1954 NCAA Cross Country Championship Team.  It was while attending Oklahoma A&M that he met the love of his life, Marilyn Elaine Lansdown, on a blind date to Lake Blackwell. Two years later, Melvin and Marilyn were married at the First Methodist Church in Woodward, Oklahoma on April 14th, 1955.

Shortly following their marriage, Melvin was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean Conflict.  During his tour, the Army quickly discovered his athletic expertise and Melvin was put to work representing the US Army as a member of its basketball and track teams.  He served most of his two years in Seoul, South Korea and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Melvin returned to A&M, since renamed Oklahoma State University, where he majored in Natural Science Education.  While in Stillwater, Denise Waynette Moseley was born on September 25th, 1959.

Upon graduation, he began his first teaching and coaching position in Knowles, Oklahoma.  While there, James Marvin Moseley was born on April 26, 1962, and Mark Wayne Moseley on October 19, 1964.

After five years in Knowles, Melvin and Marilyn relocated to Covington, Oklahoma.  Melvin served as the High School Principal for two years.

In 1967, the family moved to Laverne, Oklahoma. Melvin taught at Laverne for 25 years until his retirement in 1992.  During that time, he taught science and coached cross country.  He also farmed 600 acres of wheat and alfalfa as well as raised cows and pigs.

On March 30, 1983, Melvin was honored by his induction into the Oklahoma State University Track Hall of Fame.

Melvin Moseley passed away on January 12, 2018 at Corn Heritage Village, Corn, Oklahoma with his beloved wife, Marilyn, at his side.
