Margie Lee (Wright) Chaffin was born on March 22, 1923, in Mannsville, Oklahoma to Clint and Etta (Boyer) Wright. Margie passed away September 2, 2018 in the Shattuck Nursing Center.

Margie attended elementary and high school in Mannsville graduating with the Class of 1941. Margie was an accomplished basketball player and track participant.

Margie accepted Christ as her personal savior as a teenager and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shattuck.

On December 4, 1943, Margie was united in marriage to Gerald K. Chaffin and to this union was added a son in 1960 and a daughter in 1963.

Margie worked as a sales clerk during the first years of her marriage to help supplement their income while G.K. was in college in Durant.

In 1953 they moved to Arnett where Gerald took a teaching position and Margie worked as a school secretary and book keeper for A.R. Chestnut and sons.

After Johnny arrived, she quit working outside the home and became a fulltime home mom.

The Chaffins moved from Arnett to Mustang in 1965; Mustang to Garber in 1968; Garber to Pryor in 1970; and Pryor to Shattuck in 1971.

Shortly after moving to Shattuck, Margie took a job with High Plains Natural Gas and ran the office in Shattuck, until it was bought our by ONG where she continued operating the office until 1986  when she retired.

After retiring in August of 86, Gerald and Margie did a little traveling in their new motor home before winter. The following summer, they worked as Gate Keepers at Canton Lake, Big Ben  recreation area. They had always enjoyed camping, boating and water skiing, so this was a fun job where family and friends visited on weekends!

Their plan was to work there the following summer but G.K. passed away in April 1988 immediately before they were to return to work on May 1st.

After G.K.’s passing, Margie stayed busy doing volunteer work for her church serving as a church secretary, helping prepare and serve meals for special dinners as needed. She also was a volunteer as the Hospital delivering Meals on Wheels and helping in the refreshment area as a Pink Lady.

Margie enjoyed working in yard raising flowers and in 2007 with failing health, she moved to Providence Assisted Living Place in Woodward.
